After reading previous Yelp reviews - I knew I had to try Nick's Gyros!
The Good:
-Our order was taken with enthusiasm and served rather quickly.
-My husband had the choice between yanni or the Chefs sauce for his Hades. With this being our first time at Nick's Gyros they offered him samples of both sauces to help in the decision process. He opted for a little of both on his Hades.
-Prices are very reasonable!
-Prime location - close to WMU and bars. Nick's Gyros is the perfect place to grab a bite to eat after an evening of drinking or after a long day of classes.
-Two parking spots are reserved for Nick's Gyros on the backside of the restaurant. However, customers of The Goat tend to disregard these signs.
-Lots of cool wall artwork and pictures to look at.
-The food is delicious! The fries were crispy and seasoned to perfection. My husband says he'd come back for the fries alone. The falafel was flavorful, crispy and served with a homemade red pepper dipping sauce. The Greek salad comes with NO lettuce but lots of fresh veggies! YUM!
-The baklava was life changing! In all seriousness I've tried baklava many times before and none of those experiences even begin to compare to the baklava at Nick's Gyros. It melts in your mouth and is oozing with the most amazing flavor that words can't even begin to describe - just try it!
The Needs Improvement:
Currently doesn't need any improving!

I saw photos of some gyros with fries in them on Facebook so I knew I had to try Nick's Gyros at a recent food truck rally in Grand Rapids! I ordered the traditional and made it "mac daddy" with added spicy sauce. The guy taking my order was super nice.
The food took a bit to come out because there was a line ahead of me, but I didn't mind. Then my gyro appeared and I was so excited! First of all, it's a pretty large portion for one person. The amount of piping hot fries on this gyro was a little overwhelming and I grabbed a fork as I had no clue how to eat this thing. The flavors are all there and typical of your classic gyro, even though they use pork instead of the usual lamb or beef. I ended up eating a bunch of the fries off the gyro first because it was just way too unwieldy. The fries were hot and fresh, visibly seasoned but not that flavorful unfortunately. Then I got into the gyro some more and didn't notice a hint of anything spicy so I would say the "mac daddy" upgrade isn't worth it. The meat in the gyro was tender and flavorful, and the tzatziki was spot on. I don't think the addition of the fries really did a whole lot, but it was fun and made for a good photo. I'd probably try some of their other menu items if I got a chance! -

I love my gyros but just wasn't a fan of Nick's. The texture was that of fatty piece of chewy pork. I have to admit it was different and I can see how being in a college town this would work. Just not my style. I did like the falafel. It was good and traditional.

I heard a lot of good things about Nick's so I decided to join in on a group order via door dash. The authenticity just wasn't there for me, which made me a little bit sad as that was their whole pitch.
The meat was burned and really fatty- large portion so you do get your money's worth, but it felt like a fast food item.
I have heard the service is wonderful, and I am glad that people like the place, just not for me.
Needs more dill, lol. -

I picked out four large pieces of white, unrendered fat from my half eaten gyro. I know I ate some I hope not too much. That is not good. There are other issues with the meat. It is cut too thick, is chewy, and I flat-out don't like the flavor: it could hold up to more spices. It did not satisfy my craving for a gyro. Because they use pork it didn't have the saltiness or crispiness I want in gyro meat. However, the fries are great, the service friendly, the price fair, and everything seems pretty clean. This may be enough to get me to come back to try a chicken of Falafel pita. But a no, no for me on the pork.
